Randy Turner | Duke Energy
Randy Turner serves as a Project Director and the Program Manager for the newly established Enterprise Communications Grid Program. He co-led Duke Energy’s Project Mercury, an innovative cross-functional team in the process of establishing Duke Energy’s 15-year enterprise-wide communications road map. Randy has 31 years of experience in the utility business with time spent in Distribution Engineering, Power Quality and Energy Engineering, Resource Management and Technology Portfolio Management. He has extensive Project Management experience in Distribution Construction, Systems / Applications Deployments and is now working directly with Telecom. As Program Manager, he is responsible for overseeing the execution of the Enterprise Communication Grid Strategy (The 3rd Grid) which is planned to be more than $1 billion in uplift and transformation over the next 10 years.
Chrissy Carr | Burns & McDonnell
Ms. Carr graduated from the University of Kansas with a BSEE specializing in Telecommunications. Ms. Carr is a professional engineer in the utility telecommunications industry with 26 years of experience. She specializes in large scale turnkey networks for electric utilities. She presently serves as Client Strategy Director in Burns & McDonnell’s Telecommunications and Network Engineering Department. Ms. Carr’s experience in telecommunications includes fiber optic systems, microwave radio, land mobile radio (UHF/VHF), and wide area networks which includes MPLS and SONET.
Ken Smith | Duke Energy
Ken Smith serves as the Enterprise Telecom Architect for IT at Duke Energy. He co-led Duke Energy’s Project Mercury, an innovative cross-functional team in the process of establishing Duke Energy’s 15-year enterprise-wide communications road map. Ken has 31 years of experience in the utility Telecommunications business in various roles including telephone engineering, engineering management, consulting and planning, and project and program management. Much of Ken’s time over the past 10 years has been dedicated to leading Telecommunications efforts associated with developing, planning and executing communication solutions for Smart Grid technologies. As the Enterprise Telecom Architect, he is responsible for leading the annual integrated planning and budget development efforts for Telecom, facilitating enterprise architecture reviews for IT projects, and ensuring the Telecom strategy is aligned with Duke Business and IT strategies. He also collaborates with the Enterprise Communications Grid Program to maintain/update the 15-year Enterprise Communication Strategy and the 10-year Grid Investment Plan for the 3rd Grid, which is planned to be more than $1 billion in Telecom technology uplift and transformation over the next 10 years.
