9450 WARD PARKWAY EXPANSION

PROJECT STATS

Client
Burns & McDonnell/VanTrust Real Estate

Location
Kansas City, Missouri

In 2016, we opened a new phase of expansion within our 34-acre campus in south Kansas City. The 310,000-square-foot building accommodates an additional 1,400 employee-owners and features on-site amenities, including a childcare center, coffee bar, a health center and pharmacy. The four-story facility serves as a southern anchor to the Ward Parkway corridor.

Building construction and associated work spanned just 17 months from ground-breaking to occupancy. Within the 345,000 hours worked, there were zero safety incidents. Integrated design-build supported seamless delivery of the $85 million project.

Sustainable design features were incorporated inside and out, including the rerouting of a stream to mirror its original path for the first time in nearly a half-century. Crews constructed a bioretention and storage system along the drainage basin featuring plants and materials that absorb and naturally filter runoff.
