OKLAHOMA GAS & ELECTRIC IT/DATA INNOVATION ZONE

PROJECT STATS

Client
Oklahoma Gas & Electric

Location
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Total Project Cost
$5.2 Million

The new collaborative workspace for Oklahoma Gas & Electric’s Information Technology (IT) and Data groups was conceived as a showcase for total Innovation in the IT and data realm. Housed in two floors of an existing high-rise office building in downtown Oklahoma City, the new space features open, day-lit floor plans, a variety of open and private meeting spaces, multiple work environments for employees to choose from throughout the day, state-of-the-art technology, and team breakout areas for 200 employees. Our design-build team performed architecture, interior design, engineering and construction services for the 48,000-square-foot space.

The IT/Data group was looking for ways to accelerate software solution development and enhance speed-to-market decision-making while reducing its footprint per person. Therefore, the design focused on team-based work environments, providing for easy collaboration, quick meetings, and areas for open and concentrative work. Open work and meeting areas are along the perimeter glass, while keeping concentrative work activities and private meeting spaces toward the interior, allowing daylight to reach deep within the space. To create a more vast space, ceilings were removed to expose the concrete structure and utilities running through the office. This raw aesthetic, along with floor-to-ceiling glass, exposed steel and pops of color, help to create a vibrant work environment.

The 8-month design and construction project also incorporated a data center and a quality assurance lab. Due to the critical nature of its operations, the project included emergency backup power for all functions within the office.
