CASE STUDY / WINGTIPS LOUNGE, ST. LOUIS LAMBERT INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The massive level of growth at St. Louis Lambert International Airport (Lambert) Terminal 2 has brought both obstacles and opportunities. Renovations of the concourse have opened new gates, and beginning in June 2018, some 109 flights will depart from Terminal 2 every day.
As part of the drive to bring new life to Terminal 2, Airport Terminal Services (ATS), a ground handling and concessions service provider, wished to build a common-use lounge by renovating and repurposing a space that had sat dormant and empty for nearly 15 years.
Despite having an existing lounge at John F. Kennedy International Airport, ATS wanted to develop an entirely new look and feel for the Lambert space. This design would then be used as the standard for developing additional Wingtips Lounges to be built at other major airports across the country.
Building in an active airport naturally requires careful planning and coordination by the project team to make sure that all personnel have the proper clearances. Additionally, the selected space for the new lounge was located directly above the Federal Inspections Service (FIS) area in Lambert, requiring special permits and screening for project crews.
Because ATS wanted to leverage our knowledge of designing and building in an airport environment, the company brought our team on as design-builder for the project.
